| (NOT OFFERED IN 2009-2010) This course presents an overview of the major theories in the development of queer studies from 1980 to the present, specifically in the contexts of critical writing, visual art production and mass media representations. Key areas of queer discourse to be examined include: the history of sexuality; queer theory and post-modern aesthetics; sexual identity and community; race and sexuality; and the reframing of queer theories and practices in changing media and technological conditions. This is a lecture/seminar course based on readings of analytical and theoretical texts and the consideration of theoretical work in relation to a range of media, including film, video, painting, photography, bookworks and digital media. |
