| (NOT OFFERED IN FALL/WINTER 2011-12) This seminar course draws on interdisciplinary research in art and design, literature, and social theory to examine a broad range of approaches to the study of gender in society. We reflect critically on the theories and practices of a diverse spectrum of feminist thought, and work towards the development of a framework of analysis which views sex and gender as intersecting with race, ethnicity, sexuality, ability, and socio-economic class. Our focus emphasizes recent changes in the global economy, capitalism, and postcolonial societies that have transformed families, workplaces, conceptions of power, and alternative forms of portraying human agency and resistance. |
