Prerequisite: 3.0 first year studio and 1.0 first year liberal studies credits (including the Writing course with a passing grade of 60%)
Students work in a variety of media to develop an understanding of the principles of design in order to produce effective concepts that communicate. Students will learn how to construct conceptual layouts that communicate their ideas; to handle the basic elements of image making, including colour, form, photographic and illustrative images, and to sharpen typographic skills through a variety of exercises. The theories of advertising brand character as it exists in print and online, will be explored. The course is delivered using lectures, in-class discussions, personal consultations and critiques. Most assignments will require research along with written and verbal presentations.
