CHOOSING A MAJOR

All first-year general Art students are required to submit an application to major at the beginning of February.

Students must choose one of: Criticism & Curatorial Practice, Integrated Media, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture/Installation or Cross-Disciplinary Art with a Publications specialization or Digital Painting & Expanded Animation specialization through Integrated Media. Spaces in some majors are limited.

Information Sessions are held in October and in January to assist students in gaining a better understanding of the Art programs. Program Chairs present an overview, emphasizing the essentials and the highlights of their respective programs. A strong component of these sessions is the input from senior students, who respond to questions from personal experience.

General Art students may also apply to major in the Material Art & Design (MAAD) Program. This program is discussed in the October Information Session, and application for this program must made by Thursday, November 14, 2013.

In addition, special offerings in the Faculty of Art, such as the Florence Program, Mobility Exchange, program specializations, and minors are discussed.

MAJORING IN MATERIAL ART & DESIGN

First-year general Art students who intend to major in the Material Art & Design program will be required to submit a request form for this major to the Faculty of Design office, Room 500, by Thursday, November 14, 2013. These students must take one of either: Material Art & Design Studio: Fibre (MAAD 1B01) or Material Art & Design Studio: Jewelery (MAAD 1B02) as a required elective in the winter semester. Students must obtain an override from the Design office to register for these courses. Places will be given out on a first come, first served basis due to limited space in the program.

Please note: First-year general art students who are admitted to Material Art & Design and do not take one of the MAAD electives (MAAD 1B01 or MAAD 1B02) in the winter semester will be required to take it in the summer semester as the prerequisite for the next level of studio courses.
