CROSS-DISCIPLINARY ART (FINE ART)

Students admitted to OCAD University prior to September 2005 (Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or AOCAD diploma program) may complete their studies without a major.

Students pursuing a Fine Art degree are able to tailor a studio education with optimum flexibility. This flexibility is well-suited to students seeking to maximize the breadth of their studio experience. It is an option generally geared to students who already hold another degree or diploma.

At the 200 level, students choose and pursue one focus area (Drawing & Painting, Integrated Media, Photography, Printmaking or Sculpture/Installation) and are expected to accumulate a specified number of credits and build upon their expertise in that same focus area throughout the learning levels. In their final year of studies, students take advanced level studio courses in lieu of Thesis Research and Thesis Presentation courses.

Students should review prerequisites for 300- and 400-level studio courses in order to make informed decisions on course selection. Some courses have a priority registration period of two weeks for program majors.

Fine Art Program Guide

Students must fulfill all requirements listed in the major program guide the year they were admitted to OCAD U. For example, a student admitted to OCAD U in 2012 must follow the major program guide published in the Fall/Winter 2012/2013 Course Calendar.

However, if program requirements change, students must adhere to the new requirements for their next learning year level.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree students must complete the requirements listed below, including 5.0 liberal studies credits.

See the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences for an outline of the degree and diploma liberal studies requirements.
