| As more people move around the globe, local spaces become sites for new cultural encounters. This course explores artistic, intellectual and political responses to questions of migration, diaspora and indigeneity. What artistic strategies and analytical vocabularies are being developed to express increasingly transcultural and hybrid realities? How do artists, thinkers and activists engage questions of cultural exchange and cultural domination, displacement and home? With shifts in identities, values and meanings as a starting point for investigation, students create insightful works in their chosen art or design media. The class provides an inclusive and collaborative environment for studio production, viewing, reading, research, conversation, and critique. |
