Creative Practice: Preparing for a Changing World

Prerequisite: MAAD Students: 8.5 credits, including all first-year requirement (5.0 credits)
Graphic Design Students: 8.5 credits, including all first-year requirement (5.0 credits)
Industrial Design Students: 8.5 credits, all first-year requirement (5.0 credits)
The course introduces students entering creative fields in art and design to the many ways they can apply what they are learning in their formal studies to a career path that is rewarding and successful, but not always predictable. Students will explore professional practice issues including creative practice, professional conduct, time and financial management, entrepreneurship, skills for navigating fluctuating economies, ethics, etiquette and privacy in an increasing online world.

From global trends to local realities, this course will apply these topics in a forward thinking manner to be adaptive to the inevitable shifts in the marketplace.
Anti-requisite: Students who have taken MAAD 4B04 Professional Practice
or MAAD 3B47 Professional Practice for Material Art & Design
or INDS 4B09 Professional Preparation
or INDS 4B05 Professional Practice
or GDES 4B06 Professional Practice for Graphic Designers
or GDES 4B06 Business and Studio Practice
may not take this course for further credit.
Notes: Please note that GDEX 3B16 is delivered entirely online and will not be scheduled in a classroom on a specific day and time.
Conditions: Students may take GDEX 3B16 Creative Practice: Preparing for a Changing World as an alternative to MAAD 3B47, INDS 4B09, or GDES 4B06
