Prerequisite: One of the following – Contemporary Issues: Art Today courses, CRCP 2B01, DRPT 2B13, INTM 2B22 PHOT 2B12, PRNT 2B25 or SCIN 2B09, DRPT 2C03 Painting Studio and 8.0 credits, including all first-year requirements (5.0 credits). |

Students will explore the history of abstract image making from an aboriginal perspective. Theoretical and historical developments in aboriginal pictorial practice and their impact and influence on the development of American modernist notions of abstraction will be considered within the studio environment, in slide presentations and through readings. In studio projects and written assignments students will investigate and respond to contemporary expressions of meaning, narrative and spirituality, and innovative approaches to aboriginal abstract painting. |
