(NOT OFFERED IN 2010-2011) The tradition of artists who write is long and venerable. Since its explosion in the 1960s, the practice of artists writing has reached the point where every artist needs to write fluently. However, this institution goes back far beyond that, encompassing aesthetics, art criticism, art history, autobiography and fiction, among other genres. Through discussion, close readings and written assignments, students will explore key books in the past and present of this fertile legacy to examine — and perhaps participate in — the mutually enriching exchange between literature and visual art. |
|
Anti-requisite: Students who have taken VISC 3B92: Special Topic in Visual Culture: Artists' Autobiographies may not take this course for further credit. |
