In times of uncertainty, the practice of foresighting guides decision-makers through understanding and responding to change. Significantly, the practice of foresighting, is evolving as a standard practice not only for governments and large businesses, but also for artists, designers and innovators that are working within highly dynamic fields, who are designing for future needs, or who are interested in directing change – or creating a better future. This course surveys the range of techniques in foresighting but focuses on the back-bone of foresight inquiry: trend scanning and scenario planning. The course is a studio and seminar course that guides students through trend identification and tracking, scenario creation, strategic and design implications of scenario building. The course ends with student presentations of innovative concepts as responses to change.
Notes: This course will fulfill 0.5 credit towards art electives in the Faculty of Art.

This course does not fulfill any Liberal Arts & Sciences requirements.
