This course focuses on creating an initial understanding of the scope and richness of North American indigenous communities, while developing methods of negotiating as a designer with these communities in the context of a design project. Participants will share their insights, research and designs in the classroom, creating a collective understanding of the fertility and depth of difference. Students will explore methodologies for developing designs for and with client cultures other than their own. This studio /seminar is intended to enhance discourse through appropriate vocabulary and strengthen abilities to generate and participate in relevant dialogue with indigenous communities. This studio will utilize guest lecturers from the indigenous academic community. |
