This course introduces the students of Material Art & Design to the areas of jewellery and metalsmithing. Aesthetic, technical and cultural aspects of body adornment will be explored. Students are encouraged to reassess their concept of jewellery. Fabrication skills such as silver soldering, piercing, forming, elementary stone setting and surface treatments are covered within a series of projects designed and produced by the students. Writing, drawing and modelmaking assignments dealing with conceptual and experimental approaches are part of this course. |

Notes: Please take special note that this course has material fees associated with it. Students entering Material Art & Design from the Faculty of Art or in the MAAD minor stream do not require the co-requisite MAAD 1B03 Methods of Material Practice. First Year Faculty of Art students who declare Material Art & Design as their major in November of their first year will be given an override from the Design Office to access their section of this course. |
