IP:Getting Value From Your Creativity
0.50 Credit(s)
Seminar
Prerequisite: Open to Graduate Students with permission of their program or all Undergraduate students who have completed 10 credits, including at least 3.0 Liberal Arts and Science credits.
The digital age has unleashed new moneymaking creative opportunities, but the internet has also resulted in the destruction of intellectual property (IP) models that have been with us since Italy’s Venetian Statute of 1474. The course examines how individuals, groups or businesses can protect their creative capital without losing the ability to network, share and collaborate. Using case studies, visits to industry and the students’ innovations, the course looks at how digital technology has upset the balance between content creators and content users and how business models of the past are being replaced with open source formats such as creative commons.
Anti-requisite: Students who have taken BUSI 3B03, GDES 4B06 Business and Studio Practice or ILLU 4B14 Professional
Conditions: Priority registration is given to DF Undergraduate and Graduate students.
