0.50 Credit(s)
Academic Course
Prerequisite: 3.0 credits of first-year studio and 1.0 credit of first-year liberal arts & sciences (including the Writing course with a minimum passing grade of 60%).
This lecture course provides an historical overview of the work of key artists in European art from the 15th to the 19th centuries. We examine how artists, from Michelangelo to Monet and from van Eyck to Cézanne, responded to a wide variety of religious, political, financial and social factors to create the most lasting visual reminders of their respective eras. Through an examination of both the artworks and the context within which artists worked and lived, students will develop a framework for considering the aesthetic, formal, social and cultural influences in European art.
Anti-requisite: Students who have taken VISC 2B35 may not take this course for further credit.
