GDES 3B93 Special Topic - Ecology/Lifecycle Analysis In Sustainable Design 0.50 Credit(s) Studio/Seminar |
Prerequisite: 9.0 credits, including all first-year requirements (5.0 credits) |
The world is changing and designers are learning that they are a crucial link in the ecological chain from raw materials to landfill sites. To positively contribute to the new normal designers need to understand the basic science of ecosystems. We will be learning about the atmosphere and the biosphere and how people have impacted them up to this point. We’ll evaluate engineered and natural materials along the way and learn how to apply sustainable concepts including cradle to cradle, life cycle analysis and ISO 1400. We’ll also take 2 field trips to local materials labs to learn about how composite materials are constructed and how they impact the environment. |
