This course explores the entrepreneurial aspects of being a practicing artist/designer. Students will be asked to think about and discuss their work and practice as it relates to the broader context of the art and design communities, among others. By learning how to position their work in the world and analyzing potential markets for it, students will gain a thorough understanding of traditional and alternative business models, business plans, budgets, bookkeeping, marketing, branding, funding, resume and portfolio development, and public presenting. Assignments, field trips, class and individual discussion will help prepare students in becoming professional practitioners and gain a critical understanding of self-employment as an option. |
