Prerequisite: INDS 3B09 Thesis Preparation & Research (minimum grade of 60%) or INDS 3B09 Research Methodologies for Industrial Designers (minimum grade of 60%)
and INDS 3B28 ID Studio 4: Design for Flow Space (minimum grade of 60%) or INDS 3B33 ID Studio 5: Sustainability and Systems-Thinking (minimum grade of 60%)
and 12.5 credits, including all first-year and second-year requirements (10.0 credits)
This course builds on skills and knowledge acquired in the preceding ID studios 1 to 5, focusing on instructor/faculty directed product/service design studio projects within 6 identified thematic areas of human activity-Home, Work, Play, Health, Mobility and Communication. The course will offer an applied and directed approach to product design studio. The course will be a combination of lectures, critiques and design projects, which will embody an integrative approach to engagement with design process and activity towards commercial application. Studio projects and assignments will engage students from analysis of brief, applied research, ideation and concept development, design evaluation, design development up to and including design implementation.
Anti-requisite: Students who have taken INDS 4C03 4th Year Product Design Studio 1 or
INDS 4C01 Meta Project 1 or
INDS 4C01 Thesis 1: Planning to Direction Definition may not take this course for further credit.
Notes: Due to course content, it is required that students register with the SAME INSTRUCTORS for INDS 4C03 and INDS 4C04 and both courses must be taken in the same academic year.
It is strongly recommended that students take INDS 4B09 in the same year as INDS 4C03/4C04.
Conditions: INDS 4C03 requires a minimum pass grade of 60%.
Should a student be unsuccessful in attaining a 60% average in INDS 4C04, they will be required, regardless of their mark in INDS 4C03 to repeat the fall component of this course, INDS 4C03, as well as the winter component, INDS 4C04.
