(NOT OFFERED IN 2009-2010) This course follows upon the History of Photography to provide an overview of the theoretical debates and key writings on photography and genre in the modern and contemporary contexts. Critical areas to be discussed include the role of photographic realism, the documentary form and social change, the grammar of photography, staging and photomontage, and digital convergence. Readings will be drawn from The Photography Reader (ed. Liz Wells) as well as contemporary journal articles. |
