(NOT OFFERED IN 2009-2010) This course studies the evolution and interface of ideas associated with the development of science and technology, and their impact on culture and the environment from the Enlightenment to the Post-modern. Particular consideration is given to the theoretical foundations of the notion of progress and the consequences of technological development, including some of the most pressing social, ethical, and environmental issues of our time. Students will develop an informed understanding of these issues and learn the skills of critical thinking, debate and clear writing. |
