ACADEMIC PROGRESSION
Students may register for second-year courses when they have completed 3.0 first-year studio credits and 1.0 first-year Liberal Studies credit (including The Essay and the Argument).
The minimum passing grade for the first-year writing course, The Essay and the Argument, is 60%.
Students may not register for third-year level courses unless they have completed most of second year as well as all of their first-year requirements as outlined in the program guides. For students admitted prior to 2008 please refer to Policy 1029.
Students who have attempted 2.0 or more credits since their last academic performance review and earn an average below 60% will be put on probation during their next academic year.
MAJORING IN MATERIAL ART & DESIGN (MAAD)
First-year general Art students who intend to major in the Material Art & Design program will be required to declare this major to the Faculty of Design office, Room 500, by November 15, 2012. These students must take one of either: Material Art & Design Studio: Fibre (MAAD 1B01) or Material Art & Design Studio: Jewelery (MAAD 1B02) as a required elective in the winter semester. Students must obtain an override from the Design office to register for these courses. Overrides will only be given to those students who have declared this major by November 15, 2012. (Places will be given out on a first come, first served basis due to limited space in the program.)
Please note: First-year general art students who declare a Material Art & Design major and do not take one of the MAAD electives (MAAD 1B01 or MAAD 1B02) in the winter semester will be required to take it in the summer semester as the prerequisite for the next level of studio courses.
PROGRAM MAJOR REQUEST
Drawing & Painting direct entry students wishing to change their Major to Criticism & Curatorial Practice, Integrated Media, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture/Installation or to a Specialization: Publications, Digital Painting and Expanded Animation through Drawing & Painting or Digital Painting and Expanded Animation through Integrated Media must submit an Application to Change Major form at the beginning of February. Spaces in some majors are limited. Information sessions on choice of major will be offered in October and January. Please refer to the OCAD U website for updated information.
All other First-year Faculty of Art students must submit a Program Major Request form at the beginning of February. Spaces in some majors are limited.
