SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Students should familiarize themselves with these special considerations as they may have an impact on graduation requirements:
- Students admitted 2008 or later must complete all first-year requirements before entering third year and must complete all second-year requirements before entering fourth year.
Students admitted prior to 2008 must complete all first-year requirements within 12 months of beginning second-year studies.
- Students may register for second-year courses when they have passed 3.0 first-year studio credits and 1.0 first-year liberal studies credits, including the writing course (one of LBST 1B11, LBST 1B12, LBST 1B13).
The minimum passing grade for the first-year writing course is 60%.
- Students who attempt 2.0 or more credits in an academic year, and earn an average below 60%, will be on probation during their next academic year.
- First-year students will be deregistered from their winter electives if they have not completed a minimum of 1.0 studio credits in the fall semester.
- Where program requirements change in a given year, students must adhere to the requirements for the specific learning level that they are entering, provided they have completed the required courses as published the previous year.
- Students are responsible for ensuring they have prerequisites as published. Students who lack the prerequisites will be withdrawn from that course.
- Courses may not be repeated for credit.
- CIAT is required for all Faculty of Art students. The various sections of CIAT address the program through which it is offered; however, students may enroll in any section in any program. This course is required at the 200 level of study. Students may receive credit for only one of these courses: CRCP 2B01, DRPT 2B13, INTM 2B22, PHOT 2B12, PRNT 2B25 and SCIN 2B09.
- A maximum of 1.5 credits in Material Art & Design (MAAD) may be taken in lieu of Faculty of Art electives.
- There is a two-week priority registration period for required courses for Faculty of Art majors. After the two-week priority registration period, all courses except thesis will be opened for general access.
- Students wishing to pursue an elective in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences or the Faculty of Design may meet with their program Chair to discuss the relevancy of the course to their studies. If approved, the course may be taken in lieu of a Faculty of Art elective.
