Business and Design Thinking
This course will examine the design ecosystem, describing the way in which design is linked with the disciplines of finance, law, management, marketing, science, and engineering. It will provide an overview and understanding of basic business and finance techniques, in particular those that have proven critical in the successful commercialization of innovation. Intellectual property rights, a critical component in new product development, will be discussed. The course will also demonstrate the importance of design thinking to business success. Students will review business case studies and will discuss and apply design methods through a series of short projects. They will have hands on business and creative experiences through a business simulation and through the creation of an innovation design solution. Students with credit in SFIN-6B01 may not take this course for credit.
