ADMISSION

All students must be formally admitted to the Ontario College of Art & Design before they may register for credit courses. Summer 2007 admission is restricted to non-program students. An applicant to degree studies may not concurrently apply for admission as a non-program student.

Non-program students have limited access to credit courses. Non-program students must meet all prerequisite requirements and normally require special approval to register. Students who meet the prerequisite requirements may have access to: DRPT2B02, DRPT2B03, DRPT2B08, DRPT2B13, DRPT2B39, DRPT2C03, DRPT3B04, GDES3B06, GDES3B10, GDES4B03, MAAD2B01, MAAD2B08, MAAD2B14, MAAD2B15, PHOT2B03, PHOT2B05, PHOT2B07, PHOT3B19, PRNT2B01, PRNT2B18, PRNT2B20, PRNT2B22, PRNT2B26, PRNT2B27.

PRE-ENTRY STUDIES - SUMMER 2007

Applicants may seek admission to the University for the 2007 summer semester to take credit courses before applying for admission to one of the University programs. They are admitted to part-time studies and may register for a lifetime total of 2.5 credits (maximum 1.5 credits in one semester).

One of the following academic requirements must be met to complete the admission process:

For Ontario applicants:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma, (OSSD) including six Grade 12 U or M courses with a minimum overall academic average of 70%, including one Grade 12 U English (ENG4U) with a minimum final grade of 70%.

For Canadian applicants outside Ontario:
Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma and a minimum overall academic average of B or 70% numeric equivalent including a Grade 12 English with a minimum of 70%.

For international applicants:
Secondary School Graduation equivalent to Grade 12 in Ontario and, from countries with English as the official language of instruction, a minimum grade of B or 70% numeric equivalent in English 12 or equivalent. From countries with a language other than English as the official language of instruction, applicants are required to present a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or equivalent test (TOEFL and equivalent test scores).

International students must have a valid Study Permit (student visa) and valid University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) before registering at OCAD.

For mature applicants:
A mature applicant is at least 21 years of age by September 1st of the year of intended enrollment. All applicants, including Canadian citizens, must provide proof of proficiency in english


POST-DIPLOMA/DEGREE STUDIES

Applicants may seek admission to the University to take credit courses after completion of the AOCAD diploma, BFA, BDes or equivalent. They are admitted to non-program studies and may register for a lifetime total of 7.5 credits (maximum 1.5 credits in one semester).

One of the following academic requirements must be met to complete the admission process:

Hold the AOCA/AOCAD diploma, BFA or BDes (automatic admission, transcript not required)

Hold a degree in fine arts from another institution, equivalent to that awarded by the Ontario College of Art & Design (post-secondary academic transcripts required). Applicants must meet the proficiency in English requirement as outlined in "Pre-Entry Studies"

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

All applicants to non-program studies must complete the 2007 Summer Non-program Student Admission Application (PDF) and submit it with the $50 non-refundable application fee to the Office of the Registrar at 115 McCaul Street, Level 2. Application for admission must be made at least four weeks prior to the first week of classes. Payment of the application fee does not guarantee admission to the University, nor does it guarantee registration in a course.

Eligible applicants must submit all required admission documentation to the Office of the Registrar before their admission can be approved. Documents must be original (no photocopies or faxes), and may include, where applicable, proof of age, high school transcripts (OSSD or equivalent), post-secondary academic transcripts, proof of English language proficiency, proof of citizenship or immigration status.

Academic transcripts and proof of proficiency in English must be sent directly to the University by the issuing institution. Proof of age and proof of citizenship documentation must be presented in person to the Office of the Registrar. Original proof of age and proof of citizenship documents will be returned to the student. Academic transcripts and proof of proficiency in English become the property of the University.

All international students must also present a valid study permit for the Ontario College of Art & Design and must participate in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP).

Students who have applied for and been denied admission to a University program may not register for any further courses at the Ontario College of Art & Design. This denial of admission status can be reversed by a successful reapplication for admission to a degree program at the University.
